I’ve been working as a warehouse driver for a local thrift store since late April.
They don’t sell knives but people donate weird stuff to the stores after hours.
I got this fo r $5. I don’t know anything about knives but couldn’t let this get thrown into the scrap metal dumpster.
Doesn’t appear to have any maker marks.
I kinda want to cut down a tree with it.
A couple other weird things that have been donated...
An urn, with grandma inside.
A Fleshlight. Might not have been the brand name but it looked like a fuckable flashlight.
And we get a lot of old used panties.
Wtf

That’s a ripper mate!

It's heavy. I really do want to cut down a tree with it

Why would one, as a knife maker, make a knife with guards (made for fighting), and also a fatass bolster?
C
osplay to the extreme.
Good deal for $5, though.

It really looks homemade. They did sharpen the hell out of it. I'm not really sure. The bolster appears to be made of the same brass, just aged chemically. Weird.

Oh, it’s totally homemade. I’m just critiquing the design. It’s like a 5-year-old’s idea of a pirate’s backup knife.
(I’m kinda serious about my knives and cooking and stuff
)

I laughed out loud at that. The tip is sharpened on both sides so you are totally correct

AND THE BOLSTER!
That’s probably my biggest gripe about “chef’s” knives that people make and sell-- when a knife has a bullshit bolster on it, you can’t use it correctly or sharpen it. And if you put a finger guard on it, you obviously don’t need a bolster.... jesus christ i sound like a maniac, but really I just love cooking and design stuff for a living.

After a closer inspection...
That's one unimpressive tang. Probably won't be cutting down a tree with it now

Someone took
an angle grinder to a leaf spring clamped in a bench vice
.
I am, in fact, laughing my ass off at the moment. Thank you.

Then my $5 was worth it. You're welcome.

The brass guard is really my big question mark— one could, if one were to make a knife out of whatever this was, make a decent-shaped blade, and clearly they could make some nice wood handles
...
I just have a hard time understanding what the point of this effort was. And I thank you sincerely for showing it to us.

The car design equivalent of this knife.
You’re welcome.
Don’t tell us about the rest.

No prob. 5 bucks well spent. I originally thought that the guard was shaped that way to attach to a rifle as a bayonet, but the sheath has that silly guard cut out.
Cosplay is probably the correct answer, just not sure why they sharpened it so much.

For $5 hack away. Even if the tree wins you’ve gotten your money’s worth in exercise and evil giggling.

It’s because they were SERIOUS.

This is true.

Y'all never seen a Bowie knife before?
